Once a list of torrents has been built up, the client needs to connect to the BitComet server using the standard BitComet API. This allows the client to obtain the torrent files it has been given. Each torrent file is processed in a similar way to the information exchange process. The torrent name and info-hash are obtained and then this information is passed to the full BitTorrent client on the client machine which then downloads the torrent file. In most cases it is the client who manages this process because that is the client machine doing the work. In some cases, however, the client (e.g. BitComet) may manage the torrent file. For example, if an active file transfer is underway with BitComet, the BitComet client will connect to the BitComet server and do the transmission. The same thing applies to live TV transmissions where the Transmission client connects directly to the BitComet server.

This process of building up the list of torrents is somewhat involved and most people won't be able to do it without some help. For example, to build up a list of all the torrents shared by a person, one starts by connecting to the BitComet server and then performs a query on the BitComet server with the following parameters:
