WALLENSTEIN: In the risk-averse world of television, it should come as no surprise that an actress with a hit under her belt would land another job, but "Cougar Town" isn't Cox's first starring role post-"Friends." She played a sleazy tabloid editor a couple of years ago in the short-lived, FX series "Dirt."
No big deal you say? What if I told you that the key staffer for Hurd making the hire thought it would be a good idea to use a reality TV show featuring "cougars" as a talent pool to recruit from? I can't make this stuff up - more from the Fortune article:
The 9-2 Huskies, who moved up three spots to No. 12 in the latest Associated Press poll Sunday after their 54-7 blowout win over Arizona on Saturday night, are 6-2 in Pac-12 play and still have a chance to sneak into the conference title game. The 7-4 Cougars, meanwhile, took down Arizona in the desert on Saturday, and the program is coming off its first Apple Cup win after seven straight losses in the series. The Cougs also have a chance to both beat the Dawgs for the first time in Pullman since 2012 and win back-to-back Apple Cups for the first time since 2008.
If aliens learned about our culture by watching our newest television shows, they might assume that planet Earth was terrorized by predatory middle-aged women with hairless, bony bodies and the same blank expression on their overly Botoxed faces, a look of creepy awe at the joys of 20-something tenderloin.
"Why don't the other humans just snuff them out?" some young alien would interject, but no one would answer him because in the galaxy of Zoron, young men are seen as hopelessly naive and confused and are generally ignored until they hit 35. Besides, all of the older aliens would already recognize that these "cougars" clearly serve as some sort of cautionary tale for female humans, a moralistic narrative that humans refer to, strangely enough, as a "guilty pleasure" -- "guilty" in this case meaning "it makes you want to stick your head in the oven" and "pleasure" referring to the feeling humans get from having their fingernails ripped off one by one.
But let's not get too lathered up around the sheer ludicrousness of the cougar meme. The real crime here is that despite the mind-swelling lameness of "Cougar Town" -- which is far, far worse than the occasionally amusing "Accidentally on Purpose" and the dull but relatively innocuous "Eastwick"-- the show has been proclaimed riotously funny and hopelessly addictive.

The Broncos and Cougars met in 2003 and 2004, before an eight-year gap. Now, the 2022 matchup marks the 11th-consecutive year the two programs have faced off. BYU is touting this fall as an "independence farewell tour," as the Cougars plan to join the Big 12 Conference in 2023.
"We come off a weekend where we were able to grow in a lot of things and now we got a huge task in front of us, a huge challenge in front of us. The upmost respect for what Kalani [Sitake] has done at BYU and the program he's built," Boise State head coach Andy Avalos said. "They've played a schedule this year, you know, the competition they've played against, the teams are 30-11 and they've played a bunch of ranked teams, beat ranked teams."
Streaming for Boise State vs. BYU is also available with the FOX SPORTS App. The app is available to subscribers of participating cable and satellite television providers (including Dish Network and DirecTV).
The Cougar microsite also features a celebrity photo gallery dedicated to famous cougars such as Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Barbara Hershey and Naveen Andrews, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins and more.
My most cherished memory at BYU was when? my fellow classmate, Garrett Tenney, and I made history our senior year when we swept the William Randolph Hearst National Journalism competition, each taking first place for television and radio news reporting. No university had ever done that before and it was the perfect ending to an undergraduate education.
The title of my autobiography would be? Incurable Adventurer. If I'm not at my desk, I'm most likely off exploring the world. I almost made it onto a Swedish reality television show this summer. The show is focused on family history, which I'm fairly passionate about.
For 15 years, Emmy winner Jennifer Aniston was the lone standout among her former Friends, all of whom had previously returned to television since the mega-hit ended in 2004. But that finally changed in 2019, when Apple TV+ began streaming The Morning Show, a one-hour drama that reunited the erstwhile Rachel Green with onetime TV sister Reese Witherspoon.
"Cougarton Abbey" is a reference to both Abed's favorite sitcom "Cougar Town" and the popular British drama "Downton Abbey". "Cougar Town" is an American sitcom that debuted in 2009 on ABC starring Courtney Cox. It is about a recently divorced forty-something year-old and her close circle of friends. In this interview, Community creator Dan Harmon described how a brief mention of "Cougar Town" on the show led to a "talent exchange" program later in Season Two. Danny Pudi appeared on Cougar Town's season finale a week after Dan Byrd and Busy Philipps appeared on Community's Season Two finale.
The internet exploded with all that and more in the hours after the host of an outdoor television show posted photos of himself holding a huge male cougar he shot earlier this month in central Alberta.
"Wild TV is a hunting and fishing television network, and we fully support the ethical and legal kill that Steve Ecklund has presented us," Kohler said on the video. "Unfortunately, he's getting huge backlash. But that won't change the fact that we love our hunting heritage here in Canada and WILD TV will continue to support that."
"Cougar hunting is popular, especially with hounds," Boyce said in an email interview Thursday from his remote cabin. "The hound hunting season begins on Dec. 1 and strict quotas are set for males and for females in a number of cougar management areas."
"What a creep," Harper wrote in a post on Twitter. "Chasing a cougar with dogs until they are exhausted then shooting a scared, cornered and tired animal. Must be compensating for something, small penis probably."
"What you have in all these cases are emotions, that people are trying to turn their emotions into a rational argument," Burton said. "When they see the cougar has been killed, that stirs an emotion in them. And then they try to rationalize that emotion after the fact."
Thanks so much for putting this post together with all of the great images. Jules home is one of my all-time favorite television sets. If I lived in a warm climate I would sooo copy come of the ideas. 2b1af7f3a8
